Al was born September 1, 1936 in Carthage, TN. He is preceded in death by his parents, Adron Allen Bennett and Bessie Pettross Bennett. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Ladye Lou Gregory Bennett; children, Melissa Bennett Wright (Scott), Phillip Bennett (Beth) and Myron Bennett; grandchildren, Eli Bennett and Max Bennett; brother, Harold Bennett (Peggy).
Al was known for his philanthropy and his generous giving of his time and efforts to civic and charitable organizations. Al's involvement in these organizations is too numerous to list. However, some of his most notable causes include active membership at Gallatin First United Methodist Church, Gallatin Noon Rotary Club, Nashville Corvette Club, 109 Cruisers Club and Sideview Fellowship Club. He served on the City of Gallatin Power Board, the Sumner County Board of Equalization, and Volunteer State Community College Foundation Board of Trustees. He was a founding board member of Sumner Academy, former board member of First Tennessee Bank, and served on City of Gallatin Planning Commission.
Al's entrepreneurial endeavors included being President of National Refining Corporation and Capital Silver Service, Inc. He recognized the need for self-storage in Gallatin and opened Gallatin Mini Storage, the first facility of its kind for the city, in 1979. He was also involved in real estate development, stock investments, and venture capital.
While he was a diligent worker, he also enjoyed life spending time with his grandchildren and family. Al loved to travel the world with his wife, Ladye Lou, in quest for knowledge and discovering what was over the horizon. He cherished time spent with fellow Corvetteers by being actively involved in the Nashville Corvette Club. As a graduate of the University of Tennessee he was an avid Volunteer football fan as well as a Tennessee Titans fan. Other activities included taking care of his farm property, hunting and fishing, and taking motorcycle trips with his sons.
Funeral Service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 28th at Gallatin First United Methodist Church with Rev. James C. Johnson, Jr. officiating. To livestream the service, you may go to YouTube or the Facebook page of Gallatin First United Methodist Church. Visitation will be Friday, November 27th from 3:00-6:00 p.m. and Saturday, November 28th from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Gallatin First United Methodist Church Ramsey Hall. Interment will be in Dixon Springs Cemetery with Phillip Bennett, Myron Bennett, Scott Wright, Eli Bennett, Max Bennett, George McDonald and Wyatt Pleming serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Gallatin Noon Rotary Club and Nashville Corvette Club.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be made to Gallatin Noon Rotary Foundation, P.O. Al was always one of the first people at Corvette events to ask what he could do to help. His 1959 Corvette was always loved and admired at the National Conventions. Words cannot express the shock of hearing the sad news of Al’s passing. He was certainly a wonderful caring human being. One that we all admired. Glad we got to see you both in Florida. We will all meet up again so until that time….sweet Ladye Lou….you have so many wonderful memories to hold onto. God Bless you and your children.

What a wonderful individual. He set an example for the rest of us to follow. As a founding Board Member of Sumner Academy he gave not just of his wisdom but of his time as well. I will never forget the hours he put in when I needed help covering all the walls in the gym with plastic shower curtains. When the gym was built nothing covered the instillation on all the walls. Consequently, whenever a volleyball or basketball hit the wall it split the thin covering. It didn’t take long before the walls were a sad sight and not representative of the school’s high standards.
With nearly one hundred white plastic shower curtains from Lowes and enough scaffolding to reach the top of all the gym walls, Al and I undertook what turned out to be a week-long project . It was late Friday night (11:00 o’clock !) and we had at least three hours of work left to do. I suggested we call it quits and come back the next morning. “Nah, let’s just finish it now” was the response I got —-and finish it we did ! A very dear friend who taught me much !
Al will be missed by all of us. He was my boss, my UT game day companion, my mentor with investments, my sidekick in mowing Sumner Academy, my farmer buddy raising calves on the Dyer farm, my respected family man that was an example for all, and a true Christian friend that I respected greatly. You are wearing your UT orange in heaven today. Rest In Peace my friend….

He helped me to see my potential and encouraged me to do remarkable work. I met him over 20 years ago. We worked together during several real estate transactions… he helped me in so many ways.. he is dearly missed by many.. and diffinately missed my me. My condolences to the family…
