Betty Ferrell Bowling

January 23, 1944 — December 19, 2025

Gallatin

Betty Ferrell Bowling passed away at the age of 81 on Friday, December 19, 2025, at Alive Hospice in Nashville. Betty was born in Nashville, though she resided for the entirety of her life in Gallatin, Tenn.

She graduated from Gallatin High School in 1962 and was recognized by her classmates with the superlative of “Best Personality.” Betty received her Bachelor of Arts in education from Middle Tennessee State University, then later earned her master’s in education at Tennessee State University. She went on to be known as Ms. Bowling to her countless students at Union Elementary and other schools within the Sumner County School System for more than 40 years.

Betty was lovingly known as “Bey” by her grandchildren, and that name was then adopted by many others who loved her. Gathering with her family, friends and neighbors was of the utmost importance to her. Betty could often be found on a walk with her dog Boca, golfing, reading, playing cards with her dear friends, or working on a puzzle. She also had a passion for watching sports and discussing the highlights with her boys.

A faithful member of First Baptist Gallatin for over 50 years, Betty served as a Sunday school teacher, participated in mission trips, taught VBS, and served wherever necessary.

She is survived by her two sons, Chanc Bowling of Gallatin and Bo (Jill) Bowling of Gallatin; grandsons Zachary Bowling of Nashville, Philip (Olivia) Bowling of Nashville, and Drew Bowling of Gallatin.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Mack and Neva Ferrell, her beloved sister Lucy, and her very best friend Ann “Buttercup” Wright.

A celebration of life will be held Tuesday, December 23, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. in the sanctuary at First Baptist Gallatin, with Dr. Travis Fleming officiating. Visitation will also be held in the sanctuary at 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service.

Pallbearers will be Scott Carter, Chad Coley, David Coley, Jeff Draper, David Johnson, and Patrick Jones. Honorary pallbearers will be Montee Beaty, Kay Gillespie, Susan Hampton, Connie Kittrell, Marilyn Kittrell, Sara Jones, Nancy Roth, Joan Schmidt, Brad Schreiner, and Linda Webster.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to be made to First Baptist Gallatin or Alive Hospice.

The family will miss their beloved Bey beyond words but find comfort in the fact she is in the hands of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Arrangements entrusted to Alexander Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 584 Nashville Pike, Gallatin.  (615) 502 0011  Online condolences can be left at www.AlexanderGallatin.com
