Carolyn Sue Martin Collins, 72, of Gallatin, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 11, 2025. Born on June 4, 1953, in Gallatin, she was the daughter of the late Fred Wilson Martin and Elizabeth Janelle Maxey Martin. Carolyn dedicated her life to her family and her work within the community.
She was the school secretary at Vena Stuart Elementary School for over 11 years. It was within those school walls that she met the love of her life, James David Collins, with whom she married in July of 1978. Their union flourished for over 43 years, during which they welcomed their son, Christopher, born on December 21, 1984.
Carolyn's passion for education was evident throughout her career, which included over 30 years at Hartsville Pike Church of Christ Day School. She not only shaped young minds but also touched the hearts of countless families. Her commitment to service was further reflected in her long-time membership at Hartsville Pike Church of Christ, alongside her early roots at Southside Baptist Church, where she was baptized at the age of 8.
A proud graduate of Gallatin High School, Class of 1971, Carolyn obtained her degree in Elementary Education from Volunteer State Community College, where she was part of the inaugural graduating class in 1973.
Outside of her professional life, Carolyn's spirit shone brightly through her many interests. She was an avid fan of the Gallatin High School Green Wave, the University of Tennessee, and the Tennessee Titans. Her home was a reflection of her vibrant personality; she took joy in decorating for all seasons, particularly relishing in the magic of Christmas. She was known for her thoughtfulness, never failing to send cards to her church family for birthdays, weddings, and other special occasions.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband David Collins and brother Bobby Lewis Martin.
Carolyn is survived by her loving son, Chris Collins; her sister, Elizabeth Ann (Ron) Mimms; and her brothers, Fred Wilson Martin, Donny Lee (Jane) Martin, and Joey Edward (Susie) Martin. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Becky Collins and Robin (Tom) Bateman; as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family.
