David “Dave” Garcia King was born on May 3, 1966, in Thomaston, Georgia, to the late Grace Nadine (King) Zorn and David Lee Johnson. He was the youngest child and the only son. On Thursday, February 26, 2026, David transitioned to his heavenly home at the age of 59.

At the age of six, David moved with his family to Detroit, Michigan, where he was raised and later graduated from John J. Pershing High School in June 1984. He began pursuing higher education at Dorsey Business College and earned a Certificate in Computer Accounting in 1985. His career in finance began shortly after in Royal Oak, Michigan. Committed to advancing his education and career, David earned his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Detroit Business College in May 1988. He later completed his Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Detroit Mercy in May 1991.

David was preceded in death by his beloved sister, Gwendolyn “Gwen” Willis (Alton Willis).

Known as the comedian of the family, David brought laughter and joy wherever he went. He was well known for his quick wit and sarcastic humor, always ready with a joke to brighten someone’s day. David was known for bringing the family coffee, donuts, and a Coke Zero because, as he liked to say, the Coke Zero “cut the sugar so it didn’t count.”

David had a deep love for sports, especially football, and remained a loyal fan of Detroit teams and Michigan Football. No matter the season, he faithfully supported the Detroit Lions. He also had a strong passion for music, particularly Motown and R&B. David loved to dance, read, and share laughter with those around him. He enjoyed Thai food and almost any meal with a little spice.

Professionally, David began his career in banking before transitioning to the automotive industry, where he spent more than 25 years working as a General Accountant and eventually rising to the role of Controller. During this time, he also shared his knowledge by teaching accounting at Davenport University in Michigan. In the final decade of his career, David worked in several areas of manufacturing.

David truly loved his work and found great joy in mentoring others. He took pride in encouraging his employees to grow professionally and personally. He always embraced new opportunities and inspired those around him to succeed.

In 2012, while working in North Carolina, David met this beloved wife, Stephanie. Soon after, he accepted a new position in Tennessee. Stephanie later joined him there in 2014, and the two were united in marriage on May 21, 2021, in Gallatin, Tennessee.

Before his passing, David accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.

David leaves behind a loving family who will cherish his memory forever. His devoted wife, Stephanie King of Gallatin, Tennessee. His son, Marcus Caughel of Rupert, Idaho. His stepchildren, Sasha (Mike) Preddie-Rothman of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Adrian Preddie II of Fayetteville, North Carolina, and Jaeden Lane of Gallatin, Tennessee. David was a proud grandfather to Aria Freeman of Godwin, North Carolina and Chloe Horton of Houston, Mississippi.

He is also survived by his sisters. Cynthia (Stanley, Master Chief Petty Officer, USN Retired) Harris of Warner Robins, Georgia. Sandra (Donald) Powell of Detroit, Michigan. Pamla King of Warner Robins, Georgia.

His family will welcome friends and visitors from 11am til 1pm on Saturday, March 14, at Alexander Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Gallatin.  A celebration of David's life will follow at 1pm.

David’s memory will also be cherished by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, dear friends, and loved ones.

As we remember David’s life, may we carry forward his spirit of love, laughter, and encouragement, honoring the joy he brought into the lives of so many.
