Gallatin

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Dorothy Sue Dixon on January 28, 2024, at the age of 79. Born on May 29, 1944, in Pulaski, Tennessee.  Dorothy was the cherished daughter of Malcolm and Pauline Moore. She spent her childhood in Minor Hill, Tennessee. The family later relocated to Pulaski, marking a new chapter in Dorothy's life.

Dorothy's academic journey began at Martin Methodist College and continued at Middle Tennessee State University, where she earned her Bachelor's degree. She went on to the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, where she obtained a Master's degree in Home Economics.

Dorothy embarked on her career as a 4-H Extension Agent in Sumner County, dedicating 11 years to service before focusing on her family. Embracing the role of a stay-at-home mom following the birth of her first son, she later returned to education. Dorothy taught at Gallatin Middle School and Union Elementary, retiring after a rewarding 20-year tenure at Rucker Stewart Middle School.

A pillar of her community, Dorothy was a devoted member of First Baptist Church Gallatin and served on the Board of Trustees for the Gallatin Public Library. Her involvement with Gallatin Cares and various community initiatives highlighted her commitment to service.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Malcolm and Pauline Moore, her beloved husband, Michael (Mike) Dixon, and her sister-in-law, Hazel Moore. She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with her sons, Rob Dixon and his wife Jess and their children Sydney (14), Henry (12), and Jake (10); Stephen Dixon and his wife Joanna and their children Annabelle (14), Emmy (10), Sloane (9), and Cru (3); and Ryan Dixon and his wife Callie and their daughter, Dorothy "Dottie" her namesake (1). She is also survived by her brother Mike Moore and children Shannon and John.

Dorothy's joyous spirit, unwavering support, and generosity touched the lives of many in Gallatin and beyond. She will be profoundly missed by her family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the community members, church family at First Baptist Church Gallatin, friends from Gallatin Country Club, neighbors from Halewood to Kennesaw Farms, and the medical professionals who provided wonderful care and support.

Dorothy's life was a God-honoring testament to the beauty of giving, teaching, and loving unconditionally. We celebrate her remarkable journey and the indelible mark she has left on our hearts.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to FBC Gallatin, Gallatin Public Library, and Gallatin Cares in her memory
