Reverend Eugene "Gene" Hamilton Skaggs age 63 of Gallatin, TN passed away February 3, 2021. He was born October 9, 1957 in Louisville, Kentucky to the late Everett Lee and Doris Jean (Rucker) Skaggs.

Gene is survived by loving wife, Pamela; son Stuart (Elizabeth) Skaggs; daughter, Hope (Joshua) Moses; grandchildren, Luke, Seth and Mary Kate Moses, Addison and Caroline Skaggs; sister, Vonda (Robert) Sisco.

Gene was musically gifted from an early age. Whether it was playing a multitude of instruments or his beautiful singing voice, Gene's love and talent for music was evident. Upon moving to Gallatin from Louisville, Kentucky, the Skaggs family attended First Baptist Church Gallatin. Gene went on to graduate from Gallatin High School. He was a proud member of the band, choir, theatrical department, and was named drum major of the marching band. Gene was also actively involved in the youth choir at FBC Gallatin. During a youth trip he caught the eye of a young lady named Pam Bottom who quickly became the love of his life. Gene and Pam would go on to be married for forty-three years, having two children, Hope and Stuart, as well as five grandchildren.

Throughout their early years of marriage, Gene sang in the Gospel group "The New Sunshine Boys." Gene knew that the Lord had given him the gift of music to be used for His glory. For the last 25+ years Gene faithfully served as a Music Minister in churches within Sumner, Macon, Wilson, and Davidson counties. He recently retired from Westwood Baptist Church in Nashville, TN after sixteen years of service.

Although a lifetime of ministry was a blessing for Gene, his greatest passion was his love for the Lord and his family. Gene was a faithful husband and devoted father. He was always ready to tell you what a wonderful wife Pam was, or what his two children, Hope and Stuart, and their spouses were up to. In recent times, "Poppy" would brag on his five grandchildren who he adored deeply.

While Gene's absence in our lives will forever be felt, we will never doubt his enduring love for us.

The family will receive friends Friday, February 12, 2021 from 4pm until 7pm at Alexander Funeral Home & Cremation Center.

*If you are planning to attend visitation, please wear a mask and practice social distancing.

Gene will be forever missed at Westwood. Of all the things I have missed during this worshipping online time, his special music is number one. I loved to hear Gene sing. Everyone knew where his heart was when he sang. Gene could lead the smallest of church choirs to sound wonderful. I am sure he and Larry will join a quartet in Heaven.
Pam, Stu, Hope, and those 5 beautiful baby grands, you are in my prayers.

Well said Ruth Johnson! Gene exemplified the love of God with kindness and patience (especially me trying to learn Media Shout)! His joy was contagious and should be among the Saints. Pam, words cannot express feelings we all have as we lift you and all the family into the arms and comfort of Jesus! He is faithful and we can look forward to hearing that wonderful choir to welcome us home one day but until then, praise Jesus for all the wonderful memories (VBS too) that bring us continued joy as we think of his faithful service through the years. All praise and Glory to Father God! Love, Jody & WendellߙϢܝ️

From the time Gene came to Gallatin, he and I have been friends, always able to pick up our last conversation where it ended. Though I never served in a church family alongside Gene, I was always confident that he was constant, steady, kind, servant-hearted. Blessings to Pam and all of the family.

We are so saddend to hear of Mr. Skaggs’ passing. He was always extremely helpful to us to use the ACE software system, and was always a delight, no matter how much help we needed. We will certainly miss him! May the Lord bring comfort to all his family, as only He can do.

I only knew Bro. Gene by telephone, however he and I became good friends and joke with one another every time I would call with a question about aceconnect. There were times I would call just to give him a hard time. I was calling today about a question when I was told he went to be with Jesus who he loved very much. My heart is sadden and I will miss calling my friend and the jokes we would tell each other. I know he is having a GREAT TIME in HEAVEN and singing with the angels. Our school is praying for his family and friends.
