George William Carpenter III

April 15, 1939 — February 1, 2024

Gallatin, TN

George William Carpenter III, age 84, a beloved member of the Gallatin community, has journeyed to eternal rest on February 1, 2024, born on April 15, 1939, in the quaint town of Cottontown, TN, George brought joy and laughter to all who had the privilege of knowing him. George is preceded in death by his parents George William Carpenter Jr. and Aletha Spivey Carpenter, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is survived by his former wife and friend Mary Carpenter, son George William Carpenter IV a.k.a. Bill, his brother James (Elwanna) Carpenter, sister Virginia Carpenter, and many nieces and nephews. George is also survived by many other relatives and friends.

A man of strong Christian faith, George was a long-time member of the Cottontown Church of Christ. His unwavering faith was a beacon of light, guiding others with compassion, love, and a steadfast commitment to serving God. In the cherished memories we hold, we find comfort knowing that he has found eternal rest in the arms of his Savior. George attended Gallatin High School, graduating with the class of 1958, building lifelong friendships along the way. George's mischievous spirit and infectious sense of humor made him a remarkable individual. With the memory of an elephant, he delighted in regaling others with captivating tales and witty anecdotes that would leave them in stitches.

Sports played a significant role in George's heart. Baseball, hockey, and football held a special place in his soul. His loyalty never wavered when it came to cheering on his favorite teams—particularly the Nashville Predators and Dallas Cowboys. The anticipation of watching these games brought him immeasurable joy and created lasting memories shared with loved ones. He was a familiar sight at Cracker Barrel every day for lunch. George always savored each bite while relishing the warm and welcoming atmosphere. Beyond satisfying his taste buds with their delectable offerings, Cracker Barrel became a cherished meeting ground where he formed connections with friends old and new.

When not immersed in sporting events or enjoying tasty meals at Cracker Barrel, George found solace in engaging activities such as playing bingo alongside his friends at the Gallatin Senior Center or at the Gallatin Public Library. These moments of camaraderie became treasured highlights of his days, enriching his life with community and companionship. While George embraced various passions, one bond held immeasurable importance to him: the unbreakable connection he shared with his son. Every day, they would engage in heartfelt conversations over the phone, bridging distances and deepening their bond. These conversations were always filled with love and laughter, solidifying a father-son relationship that transcended time and space.
