Gladys Payton, age 91 of Portland, TN, passed away February 19, 2020. Mrs. Payton was born September 29, 1928. She is preceded in death by her parents, Johnny and Dewey Parker Dorris; husband, William H. Payton, Jr.; daughter, Sharleen Wright and son, Victor T. Payton. She is survived by daughter, Angelia Bates, son, William H. Payton III (Teresa); brother, James Dorris (Ruth); sister, Betty Hovater; 14 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren.

Mrs. Payton kept foster children in her early years. She loved her children and adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 22nd from the chapel of Alexander Funeral Home & Cremation Center. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. until time of service with Elder Jack Puckett officiating. Interment will follow the service in Sumner Memorial Gardens with Jeff Payton, Jeff Whittle, Caleb Miller, Jay Woodard, Lee Allen and Owin Miller serving as pallbearers.
