Goldie Ada Shrum

Goldie Ada Shrum, age 97, born on April 13, 1927, passed away on May 25, 2024, in Lillian, Alabama surrounded by family. Goldie was born in Gallatin, TN, to the late Jesse and Carma Johnson. Her husband of over 60 years, James Shrum, welcomes her into heaven. Goldie is also preceded in death by her son Anthony “Tony” Shrum, her sisters Melba Columbia and Jewel Pryor, and her son-in-law Herb Jewell. She is survived by her daughters Kay (Virdon) Reeves and Faye Jewell, son Gary (Shirley) Shrum, her six grandchildren, Brian, Heath, Anessa, Chad, Rodney, and Shelly. Goldie also leaves behind ten great grandchildren, nine great-great grandchildren, two sisters, Opal Schmadle and Mildred Davis, as well as many other relatives and friends.

Goldie was a woman of strong Christian faith. She was a longtime member of the Church of Christ, attending services until she was no longer physically able. In her quiet moments, Goldie found solace in the simple joys of life. She was known for her unwavering opinions and strong-willed nature, yet she had a heart filled with immense love and care for her family and friends. A dedicated, loving and nurturing mother, Goldie always prioritized the needs of others above her own. Her dedication shone through in her work ethic as well. She worked alongside many family members at Western Electric preparing packages until she retired after 24 years.

Her passions extended beyond the confines of her workplace and home. Goldie's creativity shone brightly through her hobbies of sewing, needle point, and crocheting. She lovingly crafted numerous quilted throws over the years, each one carrying a piece of her warmth and affection as she gifted them to her beloved children and grandchildren. The family fondly remembers Sunday evenings gathered around the table with delicious dishes lovingly prepared by Goldie. From hearty pot roasts to meticulously homemade biscuits, she poured her heart into every meal she created. She worked magic by baking exquisite cakes for family weddings and birthdays. Each creation was a masterpiece made to celebrate life's special moments with sweetness and joy. 

As we gather to celebrate a life well lived, let us remember Goldie with fondness and gratitude for all the blessings she brought into our lives. Funeral Services for Goldie Ada Shrum will be held at Alexander Funeral Home and Cremation Center, located at 584 Nashville Pike, Gallatin, TN 37066, on Saturday, June 8^th, 2024. Visitation will be held from 11AM until 1PM, with funeral services starting promptly at 1PM. Interment will follow at the Sumner Memorial Gardens mausoleum, Located at 420 Albert Gallatin Ave., Gallatin, TN 37066.
