Obituary

James Henry "Jim" Evans Jr.,87, of Gallatin, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 28, in Nashville, Tennessee. Born May 14, 1938, in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of the late James Cletus Evans and Marie Johanna Tischler. He leaves behind a legacy marked by dedication to his family, career, and community, and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Mr. Evans devoted a significant part of his professional life to Stevison Meats in Portland, where he served a financial advisor. His career took him from Marietta, Georgia, to Gallatin, Tennessee, following the acquisition of his company by Sysco. His expertise and leadership were a testament to his commitment and hard work.

Beyond his professional achievements, Jim was a valued member of St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Hendersonville, TN. His faith and community were central to his life. For over 25 years, he dedicated himself to coaching church softball, touching the lives of many with his encouragement and sportsmanship. For over 20 years he also served as church Treasurer.

Jim was an avid boater who embraced the lake life passionately. A devoted grandfather, he cherished every moment spent being "Big Daddy" with his beloved grandchildren. His love for gardening enriched his home, and the joy he found in cultivating his garden was shared by all fortunate enough to witness it. Christmas held a special place in Jim’s heart; known for having the nicest Christmas tree in town, he delighted in the family tradition of hiding a pickle ornament—a custom that sparked joy and laughter year after year.

A passionate sports fan, Jim cheered with enthusiasm for the Atlanta Braves, Baltimore Orioles, and Nashville Predators, expressing his fervor for the games with the same vigor he brought to every facet of life.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Jon Marc Evans.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Kathleen Evans; his sons, Scott Evans and Greg (Jodi) Evans; his sister, Joanne (Dennis) Dobry; and his cherished grandchildren, Ryan (Brittany) Evans and Haley (Jake) Evans-Keough. Their lives, forever enriched by his presence, now carry forward his memory and values.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 2, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at St. Timothy Lutheran Church, located at 650 E. Main Street, Hendersonville, TN 37075. This will be followed by a Funeral Service officiated by Pastor Amanda Spangler at 12:00 p.m. at the same location. Later that afternoon a 3:00 p.m. committal service will take place at Sumner Memorial Gardens, 420 Albert Gallatin Ave, Gallatin, TN 37066.

Jim's life was one of unwavering dedication—to family, faith, and community. His legacy is one of love, warmth, and steadfastness, qualities that will continue to inspire those he leaves behind. He rests now, surrounded by the memories of a life well-lived.
