James "Hunter" Young

September 25, 1971 — August 14, 2025

Gallatin

James “Hunter” Young, a beloved son, brother, and uncle, passed away on Thursday, August 14, 2025, in Gallatin, Tennessee, the city where he was born on September 25, 1971. He was a cherished member of his community and will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Hunter graduated from Gallatin High School in 1989 and went on to attend Brevard College in Brevard, North Carolina. A dedicated Boy Scout throughout his youth, he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, a distinction that reflected his determination, service, and leadership—qualities he carried throughout his life. After graduating from college, he enlisted in the United States Army, proudly serving as an Avionics Mechanic. His education, scouting experiences, and military service together reflected his discipline, commitment, and ambition—traits that shaped his life and career.

Known for his kind and thoughtful nature, Hunter formed lasting friendships wherever he went. An avid fisherman, he found joy and peace on the water, often sharing those moments with friends and family. He was also a highly skilled craftsman, creating one-of-a-kind, personalized fishing rods and hand-crafted fishing lures. Each was meticulously designed and built by hand, and Hunter took pride in gifting them rather than selling them. These treasured creations became symbols of his generosity, creativity, and the deep connections he shared with others.

Hunter is survived by his parents, Mary Bright Hunter Young and James Sasser Young; his sister, Laura Katharine Amos; his nephew, Connor (Melanie) Amos; his great-niece, Lucy Bright Amos; his sister, Jennifer (Lee) Blair; and his nieces, Macie, Miranda, and Mia Blair. Each shared a unique and special bond with him, and together they will carry forward his memory and love.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, William Bright Hunter and Jessie Nimmo Hunter, and James Bernard Young and Gwendolyn Sasser Young.

A Memorial Service will take place at 12pm noon on Friday, August 22, 2025 at Gallatin Church of Christ.  His family will welcome friends and visitors from 10am until the 12pm service time.

As we remember Hunter, we celebrate a life devoted to family, friendship, and service. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those he loved and through the stories, laughter, and cherished mementos he leaves behind. May he rest in peace.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Hunter’s honor to the animal rescue of your choice or to the Gallatin Church of Christ, 150 East Main, Gallatin, TN 37066.
