Kelly Eugene Fleming, 65, of Gallatin, Tennessee, passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, in Lebanon, Tennessee. Born November 1, 1960, in Albany, Georgia, he was the son of the late Bobby Eugene Fleming and Marguerite Clark Johnson Fleming. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, and friend, whose zest for life touched everyone he met.
Kelly devoted 36 years of his career to aviation as an air traffic controller, retiring from Nashville's BNA in 2015. His tenure in this demanding field was marked not only by his dedication to safety and efficiency but also by his role as a charter member of the National Air Traffic Controllers Association (NATCA), where he served as a lobbyist and was active on their legislative committee. His commitment to his profession was exemplified by his unwavering focus on aviation safety.
A graduate of Gallatin High School, class of 1978, Kelly was proud of his time on the football team, which reflected the deep passion he had for sports throughout his life. He was an avid Tennessee Titans fan, and his enthusiasm extended to a love of boating, fishing, and whitewater rafting. His adventurous spirit also led him to embrace motorcycling, and he found great joy in playing guitar and enjoying music.
Those who knew Kelly will fondly remember his playful nature. He was known as a cut-up, a prankster, always quick to share a laugh or initiate a good practical joke. Above all, he held family as his top priority, continually demonstrating love and support for those closest to him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Bobby "Chip" Fleming.
Kelly is survived by his beloved wife of 27 years, Becky Fleming; his son, Ryan Kelly Fleming; and his siblings, Ted Ray Fleming, Betty K'Lynne DeBoe, and Mark Braydon (Resa) Fleming. He was a cherished grandfather to Brayden Fleming and Salem Fleming, and a proud uncle to his nieces and nephews: Tara Fleming, Alexis Fleming, Dalton Fleming, Trevor Fleming, Corey DeBoe, and Dagen Fleming. Last, but not least, he is survived by his faithful fur kid, Penny.
Visitation and funeral services will be held at Alexander Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Gallatin, Tennessee. The visitation will take place on Friday, March 6, from 1 PM to 5 PM, followed by the funeral service at 5 PM. Casual clothes are encouraged.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Judes Children's Research Hospital.
Kelly leaves behind a legacy of laughter, love, and unwavering dedication to his family and country. He will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
