Leon Goforth, 92, of Gallatin, Tennessee (formerly Cleveland, Tennessee), passed away on Monday, April 21, 2025, in Gallatin. He was a revered former pastor at Hopewell Church of God in Cleveland, Tennessee, where he dedicated 22 years of his life to serving his congregation and the community with unwavering faith and compassion. Born February 25, 1933, in Kadane Corner, Texas, he was the son of the late Raymond Leon Goforth and Ruby Pauline Gilbreath Goforth.
Leon was not only known for his spiritual leadership but also for his musical talent. Together with his late wife, Sue, he shared a beautiful partnership both in marriage and in music. The couple sang together in the Revival-Aires Quartet for many years, showcasing their harmony and shared passion for worship through song. Their musical journey continued as they formed the Singing Goforth Family, bringing joy to audiences across Texas and later Tennessee when they relocated to Cleveland in 1971.
In addition to his spiritual and musical endeavors, Leon had a heart of gold. He was a man of deep passion and unwavering love for those around him. His kindness touched the lives of many and will be fondly remembered by those who were fortunate to know him.
Leon cherished the simple pleasures of life, including his love for fishing, which brought him peace and joy. His legacy will continue through the many lives he impacted and the memories shared by his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his high school sweetheart and wife of 66 years, Sue Goforth.
He leaves behind his son Steve Goforth and his wife, Dianna; his sister Wanda Ellis and her husband, David; and his nephew Vep Ellis and his wife, Karen.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 12:00 PM at Sumner Memorial Gardens, located at 420 Albert Gallatin Ave, Gallatin, TN 37066. Following this, a memorial service will take place at Hopewell Church of God, 5765 Eureka Road NW, Cleveland, TN 37312, on Sunday, April 27, 2025, at 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hopewell Church of God, 5765 Eureka Road NW, Cleveland, TN 37312.
