Margaret Maria Guffey, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at her home in Gallatin, Tennessee. Born on August 10, 1946, in New Orleans, Louisiana, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Manuel Sanchez and Eudora Dickens Sanchez. Throughout her life, she became known for her loving spirit and kind heart.
Margaret was a devoted animal lover, and her compassion extended to all creatures great and small. She cherished the time spent on her hobbies, particularly her passion for cross stitching, which she approached with the same care and attention she offered everyone around her. A devout Catholic, Margaret attended St. John Vianney Catholic Church whenever her health permitted, finding solace and strength in her faith.
Those who had the pleasure of knowing Margaret will remember her as the sweetest lady, a person who did not know a stranger. Her warmth and welcoming nature allowed her to engage in conversation with anyone, leaving a lasting impression on all who crossed her path.
Margaret is survived by her loving sons, Alan (Cheryl) Guffey and Eddy (Sandra) Guffey, her stepdaughter, Michelle (Steve) Guffey Conner, and her grandsons, John Guffey and Ricky (Ashlyn) Kelly. She also leaves behind her honorary grandchildren Heather (Jeremy) Centracchio and Katie Phillips, honorary great grandchildren Jasmine (Caleb) Denny, Matie Phillips, Isaiah Centracchio, Ben Centracchio, and Jacob Centracchio. Each of them carries with them fond memories of her nurturing spirit, vibrant personality, and unwavering love.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, February 3, from 11am until 1pm at Alexander Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Gallatin. A funeral service officiated by Deacon Mike Rector will follow at 1pm. Burial will take place at Hartsville Memorial Gardens in Hartsville.
As we reflect on Margaret's life, we remember her as a remarkable woman who brought joy to those around her and left an indelible mark on the hearts of her family and friends.
Donations can be made to the Sumner County Humane Society or your local animal shelter.
