Michael Lawrence Shrum

Rev. Michael Lawrence Shrum, age 67 of Gallatin, TN, passed away August 30, 2023.  Michael was born May 21, 1956, in Gallatin, TN.  He was preceded in death by his father, Albert Shrum; sons, Michael Shrum, Jr. and Jonathon Shrum.  He is survived by his mother, Jean Leath Shrum; loving wife of 19 years and best friend, Mary “Missy” Shrum; daughter, Holly Hodges (Brandon); son, Timothy Shrum (Tamra), daughter, Elizabeth White (Andrew); grandchildren, Jon Addison Shrum, Jaxon Poole, Audrey Shrum and Abby Shrum and sister, Joannie Bordon (Randy).

Michael was a Christian man who was self-taught in theology and had a massive library.  He served as pastor at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church for 24 years.  Michael was a book worm and spent a lot of his time in bookstores and reading.  He moved to Indiana at a young age and then moved back with his parents to run a country general store in Bethpage, TN.  Michael was a man with high integrity who was kind and compassionate.  He officiated many weddings, funerals and spent time visiting nursing homes.  Michael will be remembered as a Man of Prayer.

A visitation will be held at Alexander Funeral Home and Cremation Center on Monday, September 4^th, 2023, from 12PM until 5PM. Then again on September 5^th,2023, from 10AM until 12PM, with our funeral service starting promptly at 12PM. A Burial will follow at 1PM at Sumner Memorial Gardens.
