Mr. Richard "Shep" Archer, Sr.; 73, of LaFayette,GA; passed away surrounded by his family on October 27, 2017. He was born on September 24, 1944 in Houston, TX to the late Thomas Archer, Sr. and Inez Shepard Archer. He is also preceded in death by two siblings, Tom Archer and Diane Engle.

Shep was raised in LaFayette, GA and just recently moved to Portland, TN within the last few years. He was one of the last descendants of the family of the Archer Drug Store; and was the nephew of the late Dr. Richard Cato Shepard, a prominent physician from the LaFayette community. He married the love of his life, Doris Chapman Archer, on March 19, 1962 and they were married for 55 years; together they had two children, Ricky Archer and Vanessa Jacobs. Shep loved his family and was very passionate about his grandkids. While his son was young, he enjoyed coaching him in baseball. He spent a lot of his time fishing, camping, and just being outside. He was very passionate about his family, nature, and all of God's creatures. He was a very loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be truly missed.

Shep is survived by his wife, Doris Archer; two children, Ricky (Candy) Archer and Vanessa (Ron) Jacobs; grandchildren, Zach and Ethan Jacobs, and Alex Osborn; and one sister, Gale Verity.

Visitation will be held at Alexander Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Gallatin, TN from 3-6pm CST. Another visitation will be held at Wilson and Sons Funeral Home in LaFayette, GA on Monday from 4-8pm EST and again from 10-12pm EST on Tuesday. A life celebration will also be held at Wilson and Sons Funeral Home on Tuesday at 12pm EST.
