Rodger Dale Hammersley, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 29, 2026, in Hendersonville, Tennessee. Born on September 17, 1963, in Nashville, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Fred Hammersley and Janice Edwards Hammersley.
Dale was known for his strong will and unyielding spirit. A man who was stubborn by nature, he enjoyed engaging in spirited discussions, often sharing his views vigorously, especially on Facebook. Yet beneath this tenacity was a heart devoted to his family and friends, a man who treasured the moments spent with those closest to him. He particularly enjoyed teaching his grandchildren how to swim, creating memories that they—and all who knew him—will cherish deeply.
A true Harley Davidson enthusiast, Dale embraced the freedom of the open road, frequently taking his beloved motorcycle on adventures, with a special fondness for the challenging curves of the Tail of the Dragon in eastern Tennessee. His love of speed and competition extended to his favorite sports as well, including NASCAR and the Tennessee Titans, which provided him much joy and camaraderie. Alongside these passions, Dale enjoyed the satisfying labor of cutting wood, finding peace and purpose in the rhythm of this pastime.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers Freddie Hammersley and Donnie Hammersley.
Dale’s family was central to his life. He is survived by his devoted wife, Robbie Jeanine Hammersley; his children Kristy Hammersley, Amanda (Bradley) Hammersley, Rodger Dale Hammersley, Jr., and Shelly Dixon. He was also a loving stepfather to Aaron (Paula) Holtzlander and Maria (Brett) Place. Dale's brother, Mike Hammersley, along with his fourteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, remember him as a pillar of strength, humor, and affection. Alongside his human family, Dale’s faithful dogs, Deuce and Ace, shared his warmth and companionship.
A memorial gathering to honor Dale’s life will be held on Friday, April 3, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Alexander Funeral Home & Cremation Center located at 584 Nashville Pike, Gallatin, Tennessee. This will be an opportunity for friends and family to come together, celebrate his life, and share the stories that made him so memorable.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made directly to the family via their fundraiser here.
Dale’s legacy is one of love, determination, and a zest for life. His spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew him and cherished his unique blend of stubbornness, humor, and unwavering devotion to family. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
