Sandra Layne Woodard, 79, of Gallatin, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 19, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on August 15, 1946, in Nashville, Tennessee, and lived a life marked by faith, devotion to family, and kindness toward all who knew her.
Sandra was a proud graduate of Isaac Litton High School and carried the values of hard work, compassion, and integrity throughout her life. A woman of strong Christian faith, she was a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Hendersonville, where her faith served as the foundation of her life and guided her love for others.
Nothing brought Sandra greater joy than her family. She treasured every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-granddaughter. Being a grandmother was one of her greatest blessings, and she embraced that role with endless love, wisdom, and encouragement.
Sandra also found happiness in the simple pleasures of life. She had a special gift for gardening and took great pride in tending her flowers, creating beauty wherever she planted. She was also an avid dog lover, finding comfort and companionship in her beloved pets over the years.
Sandra was preceded in death by her father, Sam Moore Williams; her mother, Mable Helen Williams; her beloved husband, Ernest T. “Butch” Woodard; and her brother, Ronnie Wayne Ward.
She leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish her memory, including her children, Cheryl (Jimmy) Woodard Douglas, Eric Timothy Woodard, Landan Dwight Woodard, and Bryant Williams (Vanessa) Woodard; her sister, Sherry Sue Williams; her grandchildren, Heather (Tim) Cutler, Ashley Terry, Beth (Jared) Simpson, Brooke (Spencer) Armstrong, Kolton Woodard, Nicholas Woodard, and Greyson Woodard; her great-grandchildren, Gabrielle (Jordan) Dunn, Evan Cutler, Olivia Clair Cutler, Rowan Simpson, Sequoia Simpson, Everett Armstrong, and Aubrey Armstrong; and her great-great-granddaughter, Beatrice Isobel Dunn.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 23, from 4pm til 7pm at Alexander Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 584 Nashville Pike in Gallatin. A private graveside service officiated by Mike Pennington will take place on Wednesday, June 24, at 3pm at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Nashville.
Donations can be made in her memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Sandra will be remembered for her unwavering faith, gentle spirit, warm heart, and deep love for her family. Her legacy of kindness, devotion, and grace will continue to live on in the lives of those she touched.
Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in knowing that she is at peace and reunited with loved ones who have gone before her.
