William "Billy" Baker passed away unexpectedly in his hometown of Gallatin on Tuesday, August 4, at the age of 75. Born July 3, 1951, he was the son of the late William Alexander Baker and Lillian Irene Parks Baker McCloud. Billy’s life, deeply rooted in the rolling hills of Gallatin, was marked by quiet strength, generosity, and a steadfast love for family and tradition.

A proud graduate of Gallatin High School, Class of 1971, Billy carried the values of loyalty and commitment into every path he walked. His long and respected career began as a yard supervisor with Durham Lumber in Gallatin, then WR Durham in Hendersonville, before he found his professional home at Old World Woodcrafters in Gainesboro, Tennessee, from which he retired. Through these roles, he became known for his work ethic and reliability, traits that endeared him to colleagues and friends alike.

He was a man of Christian faith and was a member of Creekview Church of Christ where he loved his church family.

Billy was a man of few words, but those who knew him understood that behind his reserved nature was a world of curiosity and heart. Once engaged, he could light up a room with stories and conversation, generously sharing his knowledge and wit. Known for his easy-going manner, he extended kindness and support without hesitation, touching many lives along the way.

Nature was Billy’s sanctuary. He found joy and peace in hunting and fishing, hobbies that connected him to the land and its history—a subject he cherished profoundly, particularly his own family's genealogy. His passion for gardening colored the seasons of his life, while football fueled his weekends. A devoted supporter of the Gallatin High School Green Wave, the University of Tennessee Volunteers, and the Green Bay Packers, his enthusiasm for the sport was a constant, uniting him with neighbors and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Linda Stafford Baker.

Billy’s loving legacy continues through his daughters, Mary Ann (Jay) Page and Sharon Baker; his brothers, Edward Wayne (Jeri) Baker, John Franklin "Frankie" (Jennifer) Baker, and Walter Glenn (Bonnie) Baker; his beloved grandson, Parker Page; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews in the Gallatin & Gainesboro areas. Each of them carries a unique part of his spirit and memory, ensuring that his influence will be felt for generations to come.

Family and friends will gather at Alexander Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Gallatin for visitation on Friday, August 7, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., and again on Saturday, August 8, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Funeral services officiated by Stacey Durham will follow at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at Alexander Funeral Home & Cremation Center. He will be laid to rest at Gallatin City Cemetery.
