Winifred Hastings passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 6, 2025, at his home in Portland, Tennessee, at the age of 98. Born October 19, 1926, in Gainesboro, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Drew Bridges Hastings and Minnie Estelle Butler Hastings.
Winifred had a notable career as a foreman with Davidson Cabinet Company, where his commitment to quality were greatly valued. He was not only skilled in his profession but also had a passion for music that resonated deeply in his life. A wonderful fiddle player, Winifred had a profound love for bluegrass music, which brought joy not only to himself but also to those around him. He found serenity in nature and took great pleasure in tending to his garden, nurturing plants with the same care that marked other aspects of his life.
Proudly serving his country in the United States Army during World War II, Winifred exemplified a deep commitment to his duties and fellow soldiers. His military service was a point of pride throughout his life, as he demonstrated the values of bravery and honor.
Active in his community, Winifred was a longtime member of Mount Moriah General Baptist Church in Portland. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding his actions and relationships, and he was a source of encouragement for many.
In his leisure time, Winifred enjoyed fishing, often finding peace by the water, relishing moments spent outdoors. His love for nature complemented his artistic spirit, making him a well-rounded individual who appreciated the simple pleasures of life.
Winifred is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 78 years, Aline "Grady" Hastings; his son, Robert Orval (Mary) Hastings; daughter, Teresa Estelle Briley; 8 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and 10 great great grandchildren. Their bonds were strengthened through countless cherished memories, and his love will be carried on through them.
