Grace Bishop

November 30, 1942 — April 13, 2022

Tampa, FL

Mrs. Grace Ella Louise (“Louise”) Bishop, age 79, of Tampa, FL, passed away after a lengthy battle with cancer on April 13, 2022. She was born November 30, 1942, in Port Arthur, TX to the late Theodore “TQ” and Grace (Stumpe) Srygley.

Along with her parents, Louise was preceded in death by her stepmother, Sara (Krentzman) Srygley; sisters, Jane Srygley Mouton and Bette Srygley Walker and former husband John Robert (Bob) Bishop.

Louise is survived by daughters, Sarah Bishop and Bonnie Bishop; son, Barry (Susan Major) Bishop; granddaughter, Briley Bishop; grandson, Nixon Bishop; brothers, Ted Srygley and Paul Srygley, along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Louise obtained her BA degree in Education from Florida State University and a master’s degree in Education from the University of South Florida.  She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority; The FSU University Singers; The Junior League of Tampa; the Tampa Oratorio Singers and Palma Ceia Presbyterian Choir.  Louise taught first grade at Berkley Preparatory School and in Hillsborough County Public School system.

Louise was a ray of sunshine, and she sang her favorite hymns, read recipe books and expounded on them with her own flair.  At age 12, Louise climbed Longs Peak in Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado at 14 thousand feet, it was an advanced hike that an adult would find a challenge – Louise took the adventure in stride.  Louise approached her uphill climb against breast cancer in similar fashion.  Her trek was formidable, and she was determined to surpass all medical expectations and enjoyed a full, blessed life with strength courage and compassion.

Louise loved gardening, photography, horses and dogs.  Louise took a TN Master Gardner class while she was visiting Nashville for medical treatments. She loved learning about and planting her container garden. She loved God and her family and was positive and genuine. Her faith in God grew every day. She was loved very much and will be greatly missed.
