Louise Troutt

Louise McCormick Troutt, age 100, of Gallatin, TN, passed away in her home on April 5, 2023.  She was born in Westmoreland, Tennessee on November 1, 1922, to parents William McCormick and Mary Lyles McCormick. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years Cordell Troutt, her mother and father Will and Mary McCormick, and her brothers Lloyd, Kelly and William McCormick. Louise is survived by her son Donald (Martha) Troutt, brothers Haskell and Gerald McCormick, grandchildren Chris (Tracee) Troutt and Dana Gilley, six great-grandchildren, as well as one great-great grandchild.

Louise, along with her husband and son, moved to Gallatin in 1946. Louise worked for the Genesco Shoe company for 37 years up until her retirement. Although she stopped school herself in the 9th grade, she went back and hit the books with the help of her granddaughter, Dana, to accomplish passing the High School Equivalent Exam and receive her GED. This helped her to become a substitute teacher at Shafer Middle School, here in Gallatin, Tennessee, after her retirement.

Louise was a devout Christian, who strongly loved God, her family, and her church. She was a charter member of the Gallatin Church of God of Prophecy, which she helped establish locally in 1958.  Louise served many roles in church including Youth Leader, Sunday School Teacher, Clerk and Treasurer, Church Custodian and member of the choir.

Louise loved music, gathering with family, cooking wonderful meals accompanied by multiple desserts and reading her Bible. Louise had a servant’s heart.  She believed in hard work, selfless dedication to those she loved, and the importance of being a Christian witness in the community.

A visitation will be held at Alexander Funeral Home and Cremation Center on Friday, April 7th, 2023, from 5 until 8pm. Then on Saturday, April 8th, 2023, visitation will be from 9am up until the time of the service at 11am.
